Sule Skerry was the first of four similar Yawls built by McGruers Yard, at Clynder, between 1958 and 1963. She is the only one not to be fitted with the traditional McGruer cruiser style dog house. Sule Skerry's first owner was Col. John Cameron of Strathblane. He sold her to John & Jennifer Guinness in 1967 and since then she has had five further owners. She has been based mainly on the Clyde, but in 1982 'found' some rocks in the Helford River following which she was brought back to McGruers for a major repair and worked on by some of the men who had originally built her. In the summer of 2008 she was privileged to have a visit from her original owner, then aged 96. Also the same year, as a 50th Birthday present, she was fitted with a new wooden boom made by Collars to very much the original design. Col. Cameron's first entry in his log is shown below along with the transfer document when he sold her:-
