Summer
Cruise 2006
Anchored at Carradale,
Sanda Island, Bangor.
The following day a stiff NW forced us into Loch
Ryan for
shelter for the night, then to Lamlash. Sule Skerry sails
very
well, but she needs a sprayhood.
Summer
Cruise
2007
First night at
Carradle then on to
Campbeltown for a crew change and later that day to Sanda Island.
Then on to Lagavulin where we sampled some cask strength
whisky
at 10.00 in the morning. Met up there with a replica Viking
long
boat which was doing a circumnavigation of the British Isles.
Came back through Crinan Canal. Anchored just north of
Tarbert,
Loch Fyne, that evening and the last night was spent in the Holy Loch.
Crinan Classic & Summer
Cruise 2008
First night at
Cumbrae where we were able to
see the Fifes at anchor at the end of the Fife week. Sailed to
Campbeltown intending to go round the Mull, but got storm bound there
for 48 hours so ran up to Ardrishaig to arrive on the Thursday of the
Crinan Classic Boat Festival weekend. Great event.
Racing competitive enough, but all done in good spirit.
Had
some exciting moments competing against 'Silence', but with only two of
us on board it was hard work. Whisky tasting unforgettable
and
ceilidh excellent. After Crinan sailed up to Kerrera for the
night then on to Tobermory and tied
up in the new marina. Then on to Loch na Keal.
Marvellous
evening with staysail up and calm seas. The next
day
through sound of Iona to anchor in Oronsay. Crew change at
Crinan
after which we went up to Fishnish Bay in the Sound of Mull for the
night and then on to the very small inlet at Dorlinn in Loch Sunart.
Couldn't find the mooring ring ashore, but saw it the following
day. Then back to Shuna, Port Appin.
Surprised to see
how many boats there were there. Sailed back to Crinan with
stop
for lunch at Loch Don and a good wind to take us down through Pladda,
but very poor visibility going through the Dorus.
The next day, emerging from the Canal, we had the staysail
up in
Loch Fyne and took a buoy at Loch Ranza. The following day sailed round
Arran anticlockwise and
anchored
for the night just north of the castle on Little Cumbrae.
Stiff northerly the following day but beat well up the firth
to
the mooring at Rhu.
Crinan
Classic & Summer Cruise 2009
No wind on the first day so motored to the Kyles and spent the night
just east of burnt isles. Very hot weather. Through Canal in
a
thunder storm, but sunny and warm at Crinan. More
crew
arrived so we were more competitive that the previous year and ended up
with one second place and two thirds. Each day we crossed
the
finish line within a second or two of 'Silence'.
Not much
wind on the Monday so back through the Canal in another thunderstorm -
so bad that the canal was closed for a couple of hours.
After Ardrishaig anchored in Loch Fyne, and the following
night
at Millport. On the last day we once again had to beat up
the
Clyde to Rhu.
