President:- George McGruer

Chairman:- Colin Tindal

Secretary:- Peter Billinghurst

Consultant:- Fraser Noble

Last July, 2008, at the second meeting of the Crinan Classic Boat Festival, it was suggested by small group of McGruer owners that it would be useful to set up a register of all known boats, and current owners, for the benefit of mutual co-operation. The principle is not to start another yacht club, but to have a register held on a data base which will contain details of as many boats as possible, maybe about 100 in all. This was felt to be useful for people who were carrying out repairs and/or restoration work so that they could get in touch with each other to share experiences or track down useful sources of information as well as the location of spares. The Register would also act as a concise history of the yachts made by McGruers.

In order to discuss the possibilities of establishing the Register, a meeting was held at Fraser Noble's house in Clynder on 19th February, 2009, which was attended by Fraser, George McGruer, Colin Tindal and Peter Billinghurst. It was agreed that the Register would be of interest to current owners of McGruer boats and anyone else, such a past owners for example, who were interested in the history and documentation of the boats. At this meeting it was agreed that the committee of the Register should be chaired by Colin Tindal, who is based in Crinan, and has been the fortunate owner of several McGruer boats. George McGruer agreed to act as President and Peter Billinghurst as secretary. Fraser Noble would be a consultant.

It is intended to have the database on the internet as soon as sufficient data is gathered, but it will be password protected to prevent anyone other than members gaining access. Additionally, if there is sufficient interest, it would be intended to print a small (A6) size booklet with the details of each boat occupying one full page. This information would also include such items as date of launch, original owner(s) along with current owners email and telephone. A brief history of each boat (about 150 to 200 words) would also be included. No expenses will be incurred by members until this booklet becomes available.  An example of a proposed layout for a website page for each boat is given here for Sule Skerry.
